Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) once again demonstrated its commitment to environmental sustainability through the BRI Peduli Program at the 2024 Mandalika MotoGP event. This event served as a moment for BRI to contribute to creating a more sustainable Mandalika environment, aligning with global efforts to protect the environment and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During the Mandalika MotoGP event, 22,560 kilograms of waste were collected, consisting of 6,715 kilograms of organic waste and 15,845 kilograms of inorganic waste. This waste management effort not only helped maintain the cleanliness of the circuit area but also directly contributed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Through these waste management activities, 3,163.94 kilograms of methane (CH4) emissions were managed, while 7,830.74 kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions were managed.
BRI introduced technology-based innovations in the "Trade Your Bottle, Earn Your Points" program by providing two Reverse Vending Machines (RVM) for recycling plastic bottles. This program aims to raise visitors' awareness of the importance of recycling, offering incentives in the form of points that can be exchanged for e-wallet balances. From September 27 to 29, 2024, a total of 65.56 kilograms of plastic bottles were collected.
The success of this program also had a positive impact on reducing the carbon footprint, with an emission reduction of 347.094 grams, equivalent to saving an area of 55.39 square meters of land.
BRI believes that through education, training, and the application of technologies like the Reverse Vending Machine, it can drive behavioral change in society regarding waste management and carbon emission reduction. This initiative also provides new economic opportunities for the local community.
BRI's commitment to maintaining environmental sustainability at major events such as the 2024 Mandalika MotoGP is a tangible manifestation of the corporation's contribution to achieving the SDGs. Through various programs implemented, BRI hopes to continue driving positive changes in environmental management and create a lasting impact on society, as well as the surrounding ecosystem.
