The Ministry of National Development Planning Deputy for Economic Affairs Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said that these five sectors are food and beverages, electronics, textiles, construction and building materials, and plastics.
"A green economy and circular economy will become one of Indonesia's engines of growth, including industrialization within it. Therefore, we have already identified five priority sectors to implement a circular economy in Indonesia," said Amalia in Jakarta on Thursday.
Amalia explained that the implementation of a circular economy aims to reduce the use of production inputs derived from natural resources. Furthermore, the circular economy also aims to achieve a zero-waste Indonesia through the application of the 9Rs: refuse, rethink, reduce, reuse, repair, refurbish, remanufacture, repurpose, recycle, and recover.
Specifically in the textile sector, Amalia said that strategies to implement a circular economy include developing infrastructure, strengthening the national textile circular economy ecosystem, reducing textile waste, and increasing resource efficiency in textile production processes.
Amalia stated that the government cannot work alone to realize a circular economy in the textile sector. Therefore, she called on ministries/agencies and the private sector to collaborate.
