Indonesia aims to increase the renewable energy capacity to 70.64% of the additional 47 GW of electricity capacity planned between 2024 and 2033, up from the previous goal of 68% in last year’s draft and 51% in the 2021-2030 according to the latest draft of the long-term electricity procurement plan (RUPTL). As of last year, renewable energy constituted only 13% of Indonesia’s energy mix, with the remainder powered by coal, oil, and gas.
The latest RUPTL draft indicates that Indonesia needs Rp 1.16 quadrillion ($71.36 billion) for the 10-year plan. The 2024 RUPTL draft shows a significant reliance on hydropower (28.72%), followed by solar and wind (28.09%), and geothermal (11.91%).
The Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) supports the government’s move to increase renewable energy capacity in the upcoming RUPTL.
